Following a campaign to implement 30 minute free ‘stop and shop’ parking across Hounslow Borough, local MP, Mary Macleod has called on Hounslow Council to support small businesses by lifting parking restrictions on local high streets for Small Business Saturday.
Last month, the Council finally announced that they would indeed be rolling out the policy, although it will not be ready in time for Small Business Saturday on 7th December. As a result, Mary has contacted Councillor Ed Mayne, the Cabinet Member responsible for parking, to ask him to support Small Business Saturday by permitting Sunday parking on that day instead.
Mary said:
‘I think it is fantastic that the Council has decided to introduce a 30 minute free ‘stop and shop’ parking policy in Hounslow Borough in pay and display bays in front of shops. However, I am disappointed that it will not be ready in time for Small Business Saturday on 7th December. On a day when we will be celebrating the character, value and importance of our small businesses and traders, we should be making it as easy as possible for people to stop and shop. That is why I am calling on the Council to support local traders by allowing Sunday parking just for Small Business Saturday’.
