Local MP, Mary Macleod chaired a public meeting in Chiswick on Saturday joined by local Councillors and the police to have a wide-ranging discussion on crime in the local area. Mary arranged this meeting in response to concerns raised by local residents as a result of a number of burglaries and robberies that have taken place in Chiswick recently, particularly in the Grove Park area.
Chiswick sector’s Inspector Darren Cornish and Acting Sergeant Anne Sanders gave local residents an update on what the police have been doing to help tackle the problem, including recent crime statistics and crime prevention initiatives. Inspector Cornish reassured residents that he was taking the increase in crime in the area really seriously and they were already acting on it.
Mary said:
‘It is important to listen to the concerns of local residents. It is critical that we deal with crime and work closely with the police who have a new local team determined to stamp it out. I was also pleased that a number of people who attended agreed to participate in the local Neighbourhood Watch scheme. Working together, we can fight against crime in the local community.’
Local resident, Pavita Cooper added:
‘As a recent victim of burglary, I am grateful to see our MP standing up and doing something about crime in our local area. It was very helpful to hear from the police about the measures they are taking and I think that this meeting was a great way for the community to unite and tackle the problem head on.’
