Plans that will see local high streets benefit from a 50% increase in the amount of free parking have been praised by local MP Mary Macleod. The announcement, which forms part of Boris Johnson’s manifesto for the London mayoralty, will see the free parking allowed at ‘Stop and Shop’ bays on Transport for London roads increased from 20 minutes to half an hour.
Mary commented, “This manifesto pledge from Boris Johnson will be particularly helpful for local businesses who are the first to suffer from the effects of poor parking provision. During a recent visit to Turnham Green Terrace both Boris and I were struck by the number of local businesses calling for action on this issue.”
Mary added, “Throughout his term as Mayor, Boris has been a huge supporter of our local high streets. Earlier this year the Mayor’s Outer London Fund announced a huge investment to revitalise both Hounslow and Brentford high streets. This latest news will further support local markets, shops and other local services.
“Our high streets are the centre of our community and can help in rebuilding the local economy, which is why it is so important that we give them proper support. This Thursday’s Mayoral Election is still too close to call so it is vital that those who want to support our local high streets do the right thing and vote for Boris Johnson this Thursday.”
