Local MP Mary Macleod will be attending a ceremony at the Civic Centre on Sunday 11th September with the Mayor of Hounslow as part of Remembrance Day commemorations to honour those who have given their lives in the line of duty. Mary said:
“I am proud to have been given the opportunity to pay tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. It is easy to forget that our safety and security as a nation ultimately depends on the sacrifices that the men and women of our armed services forces are prepared to make.”
Mary, who is President of the Chiswick Branch of the Royal British Legion, visited some of the men and women serving in action in Afghanistan last year. She added:
“In Parliament, I serve as a Squadron Leader on the RAF Parliamentary Armed Forces and I see the unswerving commitment and dedication of the back room staff too, whose hard work means our armed services can operate to the best of their ability”
“I see this sense of purpose and self sacrifice among those who volunteer their time through organisations like the Territorial Army and RAF Volunteer Reserve, who play an ever more important role.”
Across the borough, there will be many other services both public and private to remember the dead from the World Wars as well as those who have fallen since.
