Mary Macleod MP kick-started the Christmas shopping period by helping out at a local charity shop.
She worked on the till and serving customers with a smile at Trinity Hospice’s Turnham Green shop on Friday 30th November.
The local MP for Brentford and Isleworth said “Charity shops like Trinity’s are a real treasure trove and can be a fantastic place to find some really unique, interesting presents for friends and family – and you’ll be helping a great cause while you shop!”
Trinity is the local hospice for central and south-west London. Trinity’s nurses care for over 2,000 terminally ill people each year, either at home or in their state of the art inpatient centre. Trinity also provides counselling, complementary therapies, and practical and financial advice to patients and their families and carers. All this care is provided completely free of charge.
Mary said “As an independent charity, Trinity relies on the generosity of local people to help raise £6.6 million each year in order to continue its work. I really hope people will support Trinity because it is the sort of organisation you hope will be there for you, your family and friends, should you ever need their services.”
Trinity has 21 shops throughout its catchment area that provide vital income for the charity. Last year they broke all previous records with sales of £3.2 million. Christmas is a key time of year to boost sales, so Trinity is hoping that the local community show their support by donating good quality items and popping in to buy a few presents.
Turnham Green shop manager Pia Kerr says “We have some really great items for sale at the moment, including a (collector’s item), and (designer clothes). Some of our stock is brand new, and we often get donations from top designers. I’d encourage everyone who hasn’t been into a Trinity shop to come and have a look – I think they’ll be amazed by what we have to offer.”
Mary Macleod couldn’t wait to help out. “It was great to meet some of Trinity’s dedicated volunteers and talk to local Trinity supporters. Please show your support by visiting the shop – you can find out more about Trinity and how you can get involved and make a difference to local people in need.”
