CONSERVATIVE COUNCILLORS FIGHT THE COUNCIL TO SAVE CHISWICK FROM TRAFFIC CHAOS
At a meeting of Hounslow Council on Tuesday Conservative Councillors fought to give hope to Chiswick residents who are enraged and frustrated by the Labour Council's insistence on imposing draconian traffic restrictions on Chiswick streets.
Led by Conservative leader Cllr Gerald McGregor who represents Chiswick Homefields ward, the Chiswick councillors tabled a motion of no confidence in Labour leader Cllr Steve Curran.
Cllr McGregor has said "These restrictions have caused gridlock on Chiswick High Road for both cars and buses. Residential streets have become rat runs or no-go areas.
"Labour have contributed to the demise of local shopping areas, particularly the once vibrant Turnham Green Terrace.
“Many could weep at how Labour has mutilated Chiswick High Road with its tiresome obsession with dogma and its complete ignorance of how our High Road operates.
“Its vibrancy is dependent on all forms of transport including those who choose to walk.
“The Tin Eared Labour council has ruined this mix by refusing to listen to residents."
Cllr McGregor said residents should be assured that he and his colleagues will continue to fight for the people of Chiswick to give them back the High Road they love.
The debate was shortened by the Labour Group forcing a closure motion.
They don’t want to hear from Chiswick,
Not a good picture of democracy in action,
And they can’t take criticism!
