Last night saw the Chiswick Memorial Hall standing room only as local residents came to voice their anger over a planned 32 storey tower at Chiswick Roundabout.
The application which will undoubtedly be the tallest in West London, will not only see offices and commercial space taking up the new building but also up to 312 new apartments. Local Turnham Green Councillors Peter Thompson, Adrian Lee and Samantha Davies are already opposed to the plans describing them as “a monstrosity” and “changing the nature of Chiswick forever”.
The meeting saw not only local Chiswick residents in attendance but from further afield, the Kew Residents Association, Brentford Community Council, the Green Party as well as Tony Arbour Conservative GLA Member for South West London.

Residents at the meeting were determined in their opposition not to see plans for the 32 storey tower block go through with some describing it as “ghastly and unsightly”, whilst others pointed out that this was about Hounslow Labour Councillors imposing their views on Chiswick. Tony Arbour Conservative GLA Member for South West London said, “Having this enormous tower to be seen for miles around sitting right next to a busy motorway and roundabout with record levels of pollution is just madness. Added to that, if Heathrow went ahead, it would not only make life intolerable for those living inside the new offices and flats but also Chiswick Residents having to deal with more noise, more traffic and more people in and out of Chiswick”.

Local Turnham Green Councillors and resident activist Marie Rabouhans urged people to email and write to the Council as soon as possible before the deadline of the 1st February opposing the plans. They also encouraged people to sign up to the campaign email list to stay up to date with development and further rallies planned.
