Brentford and Isleworth MP Mary Macleod has praised a recent Government initiative to ensure bins are collected weekly.
Thanks to the Government’s support, Hounslow has been provided with funding to support weekly bin collections in the local area.
The Weekly Collections Support Scheme follows on from the Government’s pledge to work with local councils to increase the frequency and quality of rubbish collections and make it easier for people to recycle. This is on top of a recent Government grant to improve local roads, with a £350 million investment over 25 years for much needed maintenance to local roads and pavements.
Mary said:
“I am delighted that local people are set to benefit from this scheme. This is an important issue for residents, who deserve cleaner streets and a much safer environment.”
Hounslow was previously voted “London’s dirtiest Borough” and one of the worst areas for cleanliness and the prevalence of rubbish. In addition to reducing the smell of rubbish, the Weekly Bin Collection Support Scheme will help over 6 million households nationwide by supporting weekly collection of residual waste, alongside supporting innovation and new recycling.
Mary added:
“I hope to see the results for myself in the coming months and I hope that Hounslow will work to ensure this project is a success. I thank the Government for their support in making this important change happen.”
