Local MP Mary Macleod has spoken with the Housing Minister, Grant Shapps, about housing priorities for victims of domestic violence.
Mary commented, "I am delighted to have had the opportunity to discuss this issue with the Housing Minister. I really want to see victims of domestic violence, especially those with children or in a refuge, be given a higher priority on housing allocation by Hounslow Council. Currently Hounslow Council does not prioritise them and sometimes they have to wait years for a council house. I discussed the objectives of this campaign with Grant Shapps and he was eager to listen to my recommendations."
Mary added,“I also raised the issue with him of housing for former service personnel. If former members of the armed forces have been risking their lives for their country, then we owe it to them to give them housing on their return. As Hounslow Council reviews its policy on housing banding criteria, I would urge them to give serious and urgent consideration to my proposed reforms for these sometimes neglected groups."
