Today marks just two years to go until England hosts Rugby World Cup 2015. London will be one of the 10 host cities in England and play a key role in the delivery of the tournament.
The Rugby World Cup is one of the world’s biggest sporting events with a potential global TV audience in excess of four billion. There will be a total of 48 matches played, with 20 nations competing over 44 days, some of which in nearby Twickenham.
Mary said: “I am really pleased to see the tournament come to London and I know that the whole city will embrace the visiting teams and fans and ensure that we are part of a truly great celebration of rugby.”
“I am particularly pleased to hear about their volunteering programme. 75% of RWC 2015 volunteers will come from rugby clubs – people that know and understand the game and support it passionately week in week out. Along with the RFU’s Young Ambassador Scheme, there is so much to look forward to”
